Ohhhhhhh... I didn't even think of it...Johnny,

Ohhhhhhh... I didn't even think of it as an acronym. Is that, like, a thing? Because, if so, wow.

Kid Kyoto,

Admittedly, I wasn't around then. She did have a lab coat on over it though! That part at least looked pretty scientist-y.

Matt,

That was an unlettered version of the page, but the dialogue didn't refer to the action at all anyway. Yeah, she apparently used her eyes as little rocket engines to shoot her head backwards...? I know nothing about physics or even comic book physics, but I didn't think beams of heat worked like that.

Oh, and it was the female lab assistant lady who had the shirt on. I rewrote that sentence, as it was so vague.Calebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01391759187396994380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-47137739187347070672009-06-18T08:15:31.577-07:002009-06-18T08:15:31.577-07:00"this use of heat vision which I don't un..."this use of heat vision which I don't understand"

I don't understand anything on that page, at least not without re-reading it several times. I suppose it's got some sort of panel flow, but at first, second, and third glances it looks like a random assortment of images of the characters fighting. And I totally didn't get it until you talked about it, but I guess she's using her heat vision to propel her head backward into him? Weird.

Also, was it the guy or the assistant wearing the belly-exposing tank top? I'm confused, and that question is going to keep me up at night.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867868039166531163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-16395892287101878282009-06-17T22:06:07.703-07:002009-06-17T22:06:07.703-07:00"In telling his origin story here, Gray and P..."In telling his origin story here, Gray and Palmiotti place him at age 21 in a college lab with an assistant named Satanna and a belly-exposing tank top reading “C U next tues,” "

That's not what women scientists wore in the 40s?Kid Kyotohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06831945346163986586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-70521174405161259722009-06-17T19:23:32.259-07:002009-06-17T19:23:32.259-07:00a belly-exposing tank top reading “C U next tues,”...a belly-exposing tank top reading “C U next tues,”

REALLY!? When I think back to the shitstorms that have broken out over much tamer stuff, I can't believe an editor let this stay in. I have no idea how this title is going to be different, or even interesting. Given the strong creative team, it is borderline shocking.

My feeling is that the Ultra-Humanite was a mistake as the lead-off villain. Power Girl really needs to establish an identity of her own that is distinct from the JSA and her tenuous connection to Superman. The best way to do that is to give her a series of antagonists that don't relate to either. Instead, they led off with one that connects to both.

The better approach would be to look back at the part of her DNA that isn't already represented in the DCU: Wally Wood. It seems like a pastiche of "Cannon" would make a natural PG antagonist. Follow it with an homage to "Sally Forth", to whom PG could be a sister. Maybe rework a few horror and/or sci-fi stories to provide some threats. Maybe have Karen Starr's software company get mixed up in a legal fight with the Challenger's of the Unknown over a space project (or maybe that is too meta).

It seems like you could spin a year of stories that way without breaking out "Who's Who".Dean H.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17923782800713104454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-25415402342267418032009-06-17T19:00:27.642-07:002009-06-17T19:00:27.642-07:00I'll make sure to tell Janelle you dug Manhunt...I'll make sure to tell Janelle you dug Manhunter. Who thought we needed another generic superhero book that was neither cleverly plotted nor cleverly written?Hdefinedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14402669731760470459noreply@blogger.com
