Of course, I'm not sure what's up with the Multiverse at the moment...if Booster was visiting captured/preserved parts of the old Multiverse in Brainiac's possession, or if Morrison's MULTIVERSITY Multiverse is the same one that exists in the DCU at the moment.

Scott,

While I don't see any reasons anyone should have to take sides in any Morrison/Moore conflicts of any kind (if one even exists; it seems like it mostly exists in Morrison's imagination, or was manufactured by him for reasons I never really got), it's probably worth noting that Morrison is literally writing comics about Alan Moore comics at the moment (That is, PAX AMERICANA is basically Morrison writing a comic through which to converse with WATCHMEN).Calebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01391759187396994380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-86165690715854218342014-11-21T06:00:43.184-08:002014-11-21T06:00:43.184-08:00In fact, the Charlton heroes were explicitly bough...In fact, the Charlton heroes were explicitly bought by DC as a birthday present to Dick Giordano from iirc Paul Levitz. Moore doesn't put down Morrison, and in general tries to avoid discussing the man's work at all.

I think you may have missed a several instances where Moore did, in fact, say something negative about other comic creators:

http://comicsbeat.com/alan-moore-and-superfolks-part-3-the-strange-case-of-grant-morrison-and-alan-moore/ (Here's an entire interview of Moore dissing Morrison)
http://comicsbeat.com/the-strange-case-of-grant-morrison-and-alan-moore-as-told-by-grant-morrison/ (Here's Morrison's response)
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=30200 (Jason Aaron's response to Alan Moore's condemnation of basically every creator in the industry)

Look, I didn't post these as some partizan in the Moore-Morrison feud (I enjoy both of their work, and I've never felt the need to "pick a side"). Instead, I just wanted to point out a few instances of the many instances where Moore has gone out of his way to trash other creators.

And, yes, I realize a lot of this bitterness probably comes from his treatment by the Big 2. That being said, I don't think it gives him a free pass to say that almost every modern creator is terrible because they're just stealing his old ideas.

At the end of the day, both Morrison and Moore have said some pretty poor things. Does that detract from their work (full disclosure: I haven't read a single issue of Multiversity yet)? No, they're still two of the best writers in the industry. I just think that it's important not to get sucked into the "Team Edward"/"Team Jacob" mentality.Scott Beattiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00528480452314914200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-29957067567503778492014-11-20T16:10:05.540-08:002014-11-20T16:10:05.540-08:00@ Wayne Allen Sallee:

Some folks get through via chutzpah, others by letting their work do (most of) the talking. Ellison's big on chutzpah. His rep was built on being prolific, versatile, vocal and visible. Associating with the New Wave certainly didn't hurt. Sometimes I wonder if Moorcock, Aldiss, Ballard et al. didn't keep him around simply so their crowd had a self-appointed clown. They all loved their tipple-- times being what they were, who's to blame 'em? --yet of the lot Harlan's the only one I've ever heard of starting a fistfight because he'd had one too many.

Which is the sort of thing you *do* hear about in the art world (de Koonig, Francis Bacon), albeit extremely rarely, and usually only as a career obit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-49004107137128781342014-11-20T12:13:53.120-08:002014-11-20T12:13:53.120-08:00I'm a fiction writer, published since 1986. This generation might be the first that doesn't fawn over the guy, but I once saw him insult a younger writer DURING A PANEL by saying that if there weren't writers like [Harlan] there wouldn't be writers like [...].

This happens all the time, I can mention writers my own age having personal axes to grind, but some of the olders guys have no manners at al towards most younger writers.

A sad fact of the publishing world that you don't see happen in the art world at all.
Wayne Allen Salleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17199261942617339556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-31849230700613652122014-11-20T12:08:45.141-08:002014-11-20T12:08:45.141-08:00Caleb: in Superman: Beyond, it seemed like the cha...Caleb: in Superman: Beyond, it seemed like the characters from Earth-4 had a different feel, even Capt. Atom seemed different.

Look at how Morrison made Marvel Earth 7 and 8, implementing the Ultimate universe. We won't see it, but I'd bet that while Earth-4 in PAX AMERICANA resembles WATCHMEN, another Earth is straight out of the old Charleton "Action Heroes" line-up. Once I saw that Ultimate was Earth 7, I was already thinking that we'd see Earth-4 as WATCHMEN and another Earth with those crazy original Blue Beetle fighting "The Incredible Mummy Who Was Not Dead' tales on Earth-Whatever".
Wayne Allen Salleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17199261942617339556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-78001445743001460342014-11-20T11:48:45.072-08:002014-11-20T11:48:45.072-08:00While I adore the Quitely / Mozzer combo, I can do...While I adore the Quitely / Mozzer combo, I can do without more of Morrison's sniping. Pax Americana sounds like precisely what I couldn't stand about his 3D superman specials during Final Crisis-- why does a comic-literate audience need one comic creator with no honest axe to grind* taking cheap shots at a writer who's rarely said ANYthing negative about ANY OTHER COMICS WRITER? Moore doesn't put down Morrison, and in general tries to avoid discussing the man's work at all. The closest Moore has come in comics to criticizing Morrison's hipper-than-thou logorrhea was a double-page spread toward the end of Promethea.

* Aside from a compulsion to Kill The Father or at least reap some of his fame / skim profit.

Morrison's a talent, there's no denying his body of work, but his manners are appalling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-60888967190692351242014-11-20T07:28:03.697-08:002014-11-20T07:28:03.697-08:00I will bet you one thin dime that a Gilbert Hernan...I will bet you one thin dime that a Gilbert Hernandez cover on that comic would sell FAR LESS than the cover we got. Never underestimate the stupidity of the American comics-buying public, and don't overestimate the popularity of Gilbert Hernandez. If you went into any random number of comic book stores outside of New York, I would bet well over 90% of the customers would never have heard of Hernandez.
