And by "Question fans," I mean "People Willing To Buy A Question Monthly."

Now, if you take the character of Vic Sage out of the equation, you've cut that number down by a large part, essentially sifting out all of the people who are a fan of The Question character from those that are simply fans of The Question concept (I'm sure there's some overlap, though).

Additionally, people who've read Watchmen with it's Question-like character or totally dug the hell out of him, or people who watched JLU and kinda liked that Question fellow on it aren't going to be terribly likely to recognize/latch onto the new, female Question as easily because it's not the same character, it's just the same name and costume.

So what's the point of making The Question into a legacy character?

DC has had lots of experiencing trying and failing at creating new legacy characters (Green Arrow Connor Hawke and even Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, who replaced another legacy character). Of late, they've had some pretty spectacular (sales) failures using this same name/different character formula (Firestorm, Blue Beetle, the new Spectre, even the new Flash is flailing).

When was the last time this strategy actually really worked (Outside of Jack Knight/Starman, which was a peculiar and temporary case). Maybe Wally West as the Flash?

So, anyway, I just don't see what they're doing.

I like Renee Montoya and enjoyed reading about her in the Bat-books and GCPD. And I like the Question and have often enjoyed reading his adventures here and there. I just don't see the need to make one the other, in the same way I don't think I'd care for them killing Batman so that Aquaman could become the new Batman.

Actually, scratch that. That would be kinda cool.Calebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01391759187396994380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-89443076725879574002007-04-06T20:03:00.000-07:002007-04-06T20:03:00.000-07:00Harris, Good point. I bet the low numbers on Ant-Man aren't shocking anyone at Marvel; they had to know they wouldn't set the world on fire with the title.

I know I like reading about characters I don't like. (I hate Hal Jordan, but I sorta dig Green Lantern. Iron Man's monthly is doing pretty well now too, isn't it? And that guy is such a tool now! (I don't read it though; maybe it's totally awesome).Calebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01391759187396994380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-40763036509173286652007-04-06T06:53:00.000-07:002007-04-06T06:53:00.000-07:00I'm open to the idea of a Renee Montoya Question, ...I'm open to the idea of a Renee Montoya Question, but I haven't loved the execution so far. Unless your point was that no one wanted to see a "legacy" version of the Question, which I'd have to agree with. Montoya was just fine on her own. And I am still smarting over the fact that they killed Charlie just to go in an all-new, all-dumb direction.JohnFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09339402431610031589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-47361256495795706802007-04-05T06:52:00.000-07:002007-04-05T06:52:00.000-07:00Re: JLAFYI according to Meltzer's MySpace, the las...Re: JLA

FYI according to Meltzer's MySpace, the last 3 or 4 pages may have been printed out of order.

I wanted to get your read on this Caleb, as it was hard to tell: so the League has their "public" HQ in Washington with their Hall of Justice (and that trophy room looked like left overs from the Planet Krypton restaurants from The Kingdom). And they keep a training space/fallback HQ within the satellite? And I thought All-Star Squadron (where are my trades DC? you name check them frequently!) headquarters were on the grounds of the World's Fair in New York? For a comic book, it's just a little hard to follow.

I want to love JLA, and I will keep reading, but I agree with you that it's just not flowing like it should be. I'm hoping it'll read better in trade. That being said, I liked Arsenal's storyline in here, and that little teaser at the end got me jazzed for the next arc (Val?! That's such a 70s shoutout to the original KK series). Hopefully the awesomeness that is JSA will rub of on the JLA.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16826413365790850707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-28619908125497996472007-04-05T06:30:00.000-07:002007-04-05T06:30:00.000-07:00although I’m so goddam weary of the titles Bunch o...although I’m so goddam weary of the titles Bunch of Crazy Shit Happens For Six Issues format that I don’t know if I’ll have the strength to read it.

Why have you put up with it until now?

I think that I've leafed through at least every other issue of this title on the stands, always wanting an excuse to buy it and only once finding one (the Legion of Super-Villains), and frankly regretted even that purchase. I really don't understand what the idea behind this book is, or why "crazy shit" seems like a good dhigh concept to anyone. Any book with these two headliners will sell itself anyways, why not indulge in the luxury of some good stories inside the covers?Jacob T. Renee may seem strange as a superhero, but I'm certainly interested in how this will pan out. And yeah, she's much more interesting than Vic was.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07957151893557810297noreply@blogger.com
