There was a point where I thought the chest symbol looked weird and consulted the cover to see if it was there too, but they both had pointy-fanged red skulls on 'em...

Hey! Red Robin's really good. Read the first trade when it comes out.

Really? I'll definitely check out the trade from the library, but I haven't been able to work up any enthusiasm.

The Red Robin name and costume seems to carry a Countdown taint now, and every time I flip through the issue, I see Ra's al Gul business, and I was bored with Ra's about the time he was being resurrected. I think he probably could have stayed dead another decade or so.

On the other hand, Tim Drake trying to solve the mystery of Bruce Wayne's disappearance does sound cool to me in theory.

On the other hand, I'm waiting on Weds Comics because I'm much more of a writer-first sort of guy thing...I'll check it out when it's eventually collected, mind you.

What I found so shocking about how poorly the first issue seems to have done was that I assumed even folks who were pretty sure it wasn't going to be for them would at least want to try the first issue, just out of curiosity's sake. The format is so unusual that it really is an experience as much as a story and I sort of expected everyone who reads comics--particularly DC ones--would at least try an issue, and that number would therefore have been closer to 100,000...or at least 80,000.

There was a second printing, so maybe that was huge, I don't know.

I'm kind of curious how the trades will work out...how they'll collect it and so forth.

I also expected much more media coverage, as it tied in so nicely with the ongoing "Oh no, newspapers are dying!" story that's been running through the mainstream media all year.

Some series would probably sell decent on their own...maybe better than they would as part of an anthology.Bella's ownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06694141144259853852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-11573435614608771672009-09-17T17:05:58.777-07:002009-09-17T17:05:58.777-07:00Matt: Can't say anything about Fables, but Stu...Matt: Can't say anything about Fables, but Sturgingham's JSA has been pretty bad so far. Yost is really good at what he does (which is playing around with continuity to forge character and plot development and creating a mood where you think almost anything can happen, generally). And the Salvation Run team is also the Fables team, which is neither here nor there but just saying.

On the other hand, I'm waiting on Weds Comics because I'm much more of a writer-first sort of guy, who likes long-term character development and subplots and has no nostalgia for pre-crisis DC, and Weds Comics is sort of like the anti-52 when it comes to that sort of thing.

I'll check it out when it's eventually collected, mind you.Matt Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11471002482074216223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-76883157303993386062009-09-17T06:04:07.957-07:002009-09-17T06:04:07.957-07:00"Extensive and highly scientific research has..."Extensive and highly scientific research has lead me to conclude that most super-hero comics fans are fucking stupid and couldn't buy quality books even if they had a robot programmed just to buy good books."

I'm sick of elitist readers who are certain that their tastes are far more superior than anyone else's. (then again, I don't even dislike Tony Daniel, much- I never had the problem distinguishing his rendition of the different sons like you did). Tan's kinda suits the vibe to this story and all too (asian film noir-ish?) Early days yet I know but it kinda seems to me like Morrison is writing arcs to suit the attached artists style. (When was Tan anounced? I'll even accept its DC editorial who deserve the credit if the trend continues). The solicitation for Blackest Night #3 made it seem like the Spectre would play a prominent role in this issue, but did the Spirit of Vengeance even appear?
