Marvel kills off Phoenix and Electra. DC kills off Supergirl and Barry Allen. Marvel debuts its Ultimate line with truly despicable "heroes" and hints of incest. DC has a minor super-villain rape a long-time supporting cast member and puts bullet through the head of comedic superhero on panel.

On and on it has gone.

No one seems to have given too much thought to the fact that both DC and Marvel are fighting for position in a shrinking market. Maybe Disney will assign some clever marketing person to look at the publishing piece of the business they just acquired and ask "why have so many people headed for the exits?"Dean H.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17923782800713104454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-10213525900579329132009-09-02T14:59:26.667-07:002009-09-02T14:59:26.667-07:00Caleb, just to be clear - the 'Rama is supplyi...Caleb, just to be clear - the 'Rama is supplying you with preview books each week for the Marvel titles, right?

Nope. I think Marvel sends pdf of big books every once in a while to Newsarama central--like, I remember reviewing Civil War #1 off a pdf for Newsarama a few years back--but many (most?) of the reviews you see at Newsarama come from books the writers bought themselves at their shops.

"Best Shots Extras" tend to be from review copies. A lot of the books I review there now, on Blog@, are review copies...it's probably about half and half right now.Bella's ownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06694141144259853852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-57262483587626475762009-09-02T05:34:46.767-07:002009-09-02T05:34:46.767-07:00Caleb, just to be clear - the 'Rama is supplyi...Caleb, just to be clear - the 'Rama is supplying you with preview books each week for the Marvel titles, right?Charles Webbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03022978150690527226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-54871110040654056492009-09-01T20:37:51.142-07:002009-09-01T20:37:51.142-07:00"You know that 5,000 is is like 80% full of g..."You know that 5,000 is is like 80% full of guys like Razorfist, The Puma, The Armadillo, Swarm, Marvello, Ruby Thursday and so on."

You, sir, have just proposed the greatest team-up book ever.snellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06181997862745538999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28855039.post-40842026635174302792009-09-01T20:13:20.873-07:002009-09-01T20:13:20.873-07:00I think everything is going to continue the same. ...I think everything is going to continue the same. Look what they did for Man-Thing. (Actually, from what I hear you might not want to, but it's not a character I was into to begin with.) I do agree that Boom! has done a great job with the Muppets (also the Incredibles), and hope to see the same people running those for some time to come.

All I'll say here about the NA/TF comic (unless prompted) is that as much as I hate Wolverine, whoever drew him on the cover of #3 should be legally blocked from ever drawing Wolverine ever again.

I wouldn't mind at least seeing MA treated with a bit more respect, if not used as a blueprint for a new 616. Not much fun these days.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
