Attention Columbusites!

It's looking like a relatively light week for new releases, so if you find yourself ready to check out with a relatively small stack of new books in your hands in the shop tomorrow, you might want to consider buying Lifelike, a graphic novel collecting short stories by Columbus writer Dara Naraghi and illustrated by a handful of artists, some of them from Columbus too. Hell, you don't even have to read it if you don't want to; just buy it, so Dara gets your money.

Why should you give Dara your hard-earned money? That's a good question. Well, you can stop by The Laughing Ogre between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow and ask him yourself, as he and some of the artists involved will be there doing a book signing like they're famous or something.

Or you could always wait until this weekend, and ask him at the release party detailed in this gorgeous flyer desgined by artist and Lifelike contributor Tom Williams:



And while I'm posting items of local interest, next week the Wexner Center will be hosting an event Columbus cartoon and comic art fans may want to make a point of catching: OSU Cartoon Research Library curator Lucy Shelton Caswell will be giving a talk on Billy Ireland, the early 20th century Columbus newspaper cartoonist who was really, really, really good. Info on the event can be found here; and I'll be devoting a couple of posts here at EDILW next week to Ireland's work which, as I said, is really, really, really good.
