PSA: Attention, Columbus music and/or comics fans!
If you've been to even a single show in Columbus, you've probably seen Donewaiting.com mastermind Rob Duffy; if you're involved in music in just about any aspect in Columbus, than chances are you know Duffy. In addition to his work building and maintaing the DW blog and its (occassionally rowdy) message board, Duffy's a show promoter, mini-label runner and, of course, a huge music fan.
To celebrate his site's fifth anniversarry, he's put together a hell of a two-day, two-venue bill. Friday night, it's Sinkane, Grave Blankets, Deathly Fighter and This Moment in Black History at Carabar. Saturday night, as the above Clint Reno poster says, is El Jesus de Magico, Blueprint and Brainbow (in a special one-time only collaboration) and EDILW favorites Miranda Sound and Mike Shiflet at Skully's. The last few days, DW's been previewing the various acts, so if you're interested in any of the above, check out the site.
If you don't have anything better to do this weekend (and come on, you know you don't), make sure you check out the show.
And while I'm engaging in some hypery for Columbus events, here's a few other heads-ups, although they're more of the mark-your-calendars variety at this point.
Anyway, this year's Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo is right around the corner now. Like, just a few weeks away.
Here's Tom Williams' poster of the event:
A secret Dave Sim project entitled, um, Secret Project #1, will be unveiled there. For more info, check out the SPACE site. For comics-focused socializing that weekend, the Panel gang will be hosting a couple of public parties.
Here's the skinny on those:

ReplyDeleteIs that the Mike Shiflet who used to work at SNP?
Huh. SPACE. I kind of feel like I wouldn't mind making the drive (from the Chicago area) to go, but I don't think I will. Maybe next year...
ReplyDeleteHey Caleb--I read your comics stuff here but I never made the music/Columbus connection...one of my good friends has a podcast devoted to local Columbus artists.

It's good stuff.
Is that the Mike Shiflet who used to work at SNP?
ReplyDeleteSure is. And if you found his ad layouts electrifying, just wait until you see him rock a laptop, effects pedals and random sound-making devices.
