  3. No kidding, mcbangle...I never heard of the guy and I'd like to think I'm pretty well schooled in DC lore.

Well, he only had one appearance.

His entire Justice League career is chronicled in 1999 one-shot JLA: Superpower by John Arcudi and Scott Eaton.

It's well worth tracking down for some pretty intense emotional scenes (for JLA, anyway) and the discussion of why the League doesn't intervene in places like Iraq to take out Saddam (although it was one of those deals where Iraq and Saddam were substitutd with thinly veiled analogues).

  5. Ugh...yet another Iraq/Saddam analog deal? Sheesh.

I'll try to track it down, though, on your recommendation, sir.

Is that Vibe sulking in the background?

  7. It was a nicely done GN, but (like the Tomorrow Woman story) it shook my suspension of disbelief. The early Morrison-era League was making such a big deal out of who would be a member, the need to make hard choices that meant that all kinds of longtime Leaguers got excluded or shunted to the reserves-- and then they admit two newcomers in the course of a few months, on the basis of their having done some heroic but minor stuff in a public way.

Made it much harder for me to accept the big Tryouts issues, or Batman carefully monitoring the number of superpowered heavy-hitters, or the regular discussions about how the League needs to learn to operate as a more cohesive unit rather than expanding willy-nilly.

I think the DCU Middle East is composed of about 90 countries, 45 of which are off-brand Iraqs ruled by off-brand Saddams.

Kudos to bringing the obscure one offs that don't make it into those huge George Perez posters.
