The original art came from Sea Monsters: Ancient Reptiles That Ruled the Sea and is by Norman Nodel. It was part of a set of four non-fiction paperbooks I bought in grade school about dinosaurs; looking at the fine print here, it's copyright 1980, but I wouldn't have actually been able to get it before 1984 or so.
