Commentary on today's big comics news story:

I thought they ceased publication of Wizard magazine years ago.

What's a "magazine"?

Why did that "Wizard" guy get his blog printed out in the first place?

Wizard, was an early casualty of compressing my comics budget. I found I didn't miss it. Toyfare just fell off my radar a few months ago, and I'll miss Twisted Toyfare Theater...specifically, I'll miss the collections. Ah well. Never good when someone loses a livlihood, but Wizard was fulfilling a function that simply didn't exist anymore.

This seems to be a universal consensus. Wizard was a dying animal that needed to be put out it's misery. Like someone commented to me today - "I hate to see them go, but love to watch them walk away."

I got a free copy at a convention back in October and found that it was a shadow of its former self... And of course, I had outgrown its former self years ago. But man, back in 1994, Wizard was essential reading for geeks.

I wonder if Comics Buyer's Guide will be next to go the way of the dodo? I won't miss that magazine either if it does; they've gotten pretty awful too over the past decade.
